Choose college that embraces the Holy Spirit; not one that rejects Him

An African student in the U.S. currently serving as pastor for a Philadelphia church and also a graduate of Spiritual Life Church Bible College & Seminary in Minnesota, testifies of the uniqueness of his former college. Amidst vigorous campaigns by Bible Colleges in the U.S. and abroad to get students enrolled into their schools, one student from Spiritual Life Bible College is advising peers and prospective students studying biblical theology to choose a college that embraces the Holy Spirit; not one that rejects Him.

“When God called me to ministry, my prayer was to be trained at a place where the full counsel of God is thought; most especially where the Holy Spirit is embraced and not rejected,” said Amos Yormie Jr., a pastor who spoke on behalf of his graduating class “SLC 2022” Sunday. He was one of four who walked out with a master’s degree.

Speaker Amos Yormie is a native of the West African nation of Liberia who got converted as far back as 1992 at the height of a civil war and has since been working for Christ Jesus. He’s also founder and senior pastor of Covenant Outreach Center in Philadelphia and has planted several churches in that region.

Graduate students posed for a photo after their graduation ceremonies.

He described SLC as “a very unique school unlike other bible colleges and bible training centers. The curriculum is designed to put the necessary tools in your hands to be an effective minister.” He continued: “SLC curriculum is very rich and is a blessed school with quality education and very affordable.”

Apparently speaking in regards to his former college doctrine, Yormie stated with some degree of boldness that he felt blessed in many ways, studying at SLC; that he never had to leave class wondering what he could believe or reject per the subject matter.

In today’s world, especially in the United States, there are biblical “professors” who treat bible teaching as a job and don’t necessarily believe in the Power of the Holy Ghost, or God. Yormie alluded to it: “There are many colleges out there with so many theologians teaching what they have not done.”

“How would you like to learn about church growth from a professor who has not been to church before?” he asked, as his audience that mostly consisted of pastors, evangelists and visitors  burst into laughter.

He repeatedly praised both founders/pastors of SLC Bible College & Seminary, Dr. Joe and Dr. Judy Fornara for their wealth of knowledge, willingness and contribution to educate people worldwide in the things of God so they could spread the Good News in a world he observed is “confused” and “needs answers.”

Dr. Joseph Fornara

Pastor Judy has traveled to more than 110 countries including some most dangerous spots for Christianity such as the Middle East and parts of northern Nigeria, rocked by an Islamic war, preaching the Gospel of Christ. Her husband too, has similarly traveled to at least 70 or more nations on God’s Kingdom business.

Referred to by his church’s website as a “fire burned pentecostal pastor”, Yormie praised SLC’s Dean, Pastor Nancy Sky along with her fellow teachers working at the college, for their individual’s wealth of knowledge in the various subjects they teach.

As for his fellow graduates, he urged all to “go out there and be a blessing to our world” by applying the knowledge and tools he said, SLC has given them.

“Now it’s our responsibility to go and multiply the seeds that have been sown in our lives. Let the seeds keep multiplying. Let’s make use of it. Let us take it. Let us go and apply it and keep bringing many more souls to the Kingdom of God.”

Evangelist Eric Nyepon

Candidates for Associate Degrees in Biblical Theology included evangelists/pastors Keisha Clark, Cordelia Grayeazon, Lorre Jackson, Jacqueline Mino and Eric Nyepon, while Pastor James Kollie and Evangelist Gwen Jones McKenzie also received bachelor’s degrees.

Candidates for master’s degree included Evangelists/Pastors Jacob Blie, Alvin Dennis, Memah Howard and Amos Yormie Jr.
