Young French cyclist arrives in Liberia’s capital after 6 months of road travel from Paris

When Global Ekklesia’s publisher caught up with 29-year-old French cyclist, Corentin, Sunday afternoon, in Sasstown, Bomi County, Liberia, he seemed quite exhausted, and his entire body and gears all looked dusty from months of long travel across two continents-Europe and Africa, on a single bicycle. Corentin didn’t appear to have much time to talk when this writer met him passing through Sasstown, and could not tell where exactly he’s headed next but for the last 6 months his only work has been to keep peddling his bike and find a place to rest wherever night meets him. Corentin’s smartphone which helps him know his present location and where he’s headed, through the Global Positioning System (GPS), is like a lifeline for him. His journey, he said, started from Paris half a year now has been on the road, going through many nations before arriving in Liberia Sunday, via Sierra Leone. Corentin may have first traveled through Spain to get to North Africa, then picked up from Morocco and came down by way of Senegal, Gambia, before hitting neighboring Sierra Leone to get to Monrovia. He did not state what prompted this long road trip but “walks” and “bike rides” stretching across continents or states such as this, are quite common in the United States and Europe where people use such channels to stage national health awareness programs or raise funding to help breast cancer patients. And as it seems, Corentin appears to be doing this for fun and history-making, and not for a particular project as many people do. In all, Jesus Christ of Nazareth is accompanying Corentin on this journey; Text & Photos by James Kokulo Fasuekoi
