Dr. Francis O.S. Tabla, a Liberian native who pastors the mega Ebenezer Community Church here in Minn., has been involved in Gospel ministry for too long-a time he witnessed God’s miracles even in his own family-but not perhaps, like the one that unfolded before his eyes recently when he made an altar call.
Two unaccompanied little kids, one a boy of about 5–6-year-old named Divine, and a girl called Miracle, probably 4–5-year-old, showed up at the altar-one after the other-and walked past hundreds of congregants, to give their lives to Christ, the moment Rev. Tabla made altar call.
“Our God is still working miracles for His people,” remarked a seemingly perplexed Rev. Francis Tabla, as he held each of the kids’ hands, and tried to pull them closer to himself. It happened at the climax of the church’s 23rd anniversary celebrations that started August 30th-September 3rd.
First, Little Divine rose up from somewhere behind the huge crowd, then fearlessly walked straight to the podium and stood next to Dr. Tabla without uttering a word.
Some in the audience, perhaps, Pastor Tabla too, had thought that this was just another distraction which is common among playful kids who at times roam the hallways in search of their parents when service is nearing to the end.
But that wasn’t the case here.
Having waited a few moments and seeing that no one was coming forward to stand by, or claim Divine, Tabla leaned over sideway, and asked him, ‘what do you want done for you?’
“I want to give my life to Jesus,” he replied as Tabla held the microphone close to his mouth. The congregation of more than a thousand people responded with a thunderous applause, as people stared on in amazement.
While the clapping went on, the audience saw the little girl strolling down the aisle headed to the podium as well.
“What’s your name?” Dr. Tabal asked her, while trying to place the microphone close to the child’s mouth. “My name is Miracle,” the little voice announced, and the audience again went “wow!” in total disbelief.
When Tabla asked whether she too had come to give her life to Jesus, she nodded in agreement and continued to suck on her left thumb. Everyone stood speechless!
Ebenezer Community Church has a seating capacity between 1,500 to 2,000 up and downstairs and hosts a couple of departments including children ministry and a reading room or library.
Dr. Tabla led both into the sinner’s prayer and after it, placed his hands upon their heads and prayed and pronounced God’s divine blessings upon them.
Mother Christine Tabla later led the two to meet deacons whose duties it is to meet and speak with incoming visitors and new members.
Why both kids appeared in the main auditorium at that particular point in time and weren’t in the children’s ministry is something that seems quite interesting.
There wasn’t any indication the two were related. Global Ekklesia sought to speak to both kids, but we were unsuccessful.
This year’s ECC anniversary celebration was spread across three days at the church compound along West Broadway Ave., and attracted guests from across the U.S. and overseas, including Liberia. Pastor-Revivalist John N. Horace and Rev. Dr. Enoch G. David Nyakoon (guest speaker for the event), were among guests that came from Liberia.
Also three of ECC’s members were ordained as Ministers of the Gospel while Rev. Olivia J. Seward was ordained Music Minister and given licenses to operate worldwide. About nine persons from ECC were ordained deacons.
