Liberia: Mass turnout at church revival in Sanniquellie after ‘devil’ violent storm

If forces of darkness ever thought by briskly unleashing dark clouds over Sanniquellie bringing down a violent rainstorm Wednesday to disrupt a weeklong powerful church crusade in this historic city could weaken worshippers spirits, they certainly were kidding.

One of many scenes from the revival held at Sanniquellie Central High School at the ‘devil’ storm.

Instead, it only heightened the crusade spirit and by Thursday, hundreds more people streamed to the Sanniquellie Central High School football field, the site of the revival, led by a group of pastors from Monrovia. It is said that scores who had been trapped by the devil confessed their sins, and then placed their charms on the altar to be destroyed.

Like the “civilized world” where people have their personal “gods” i.e., fetishes, palm reading (“sand-cutting”), etc., many people of African descent, including Liberians also possess some type of “gods” or worship idols. Charms in photo above, turned over to pastors during Sanniquellie’s meeting.

A nearly one minute fifty second video, shared via social media by someone traveling with the revival team from Monrovia, first showed a large crowd near the event platform as the storm gradually blew in. In the center of the open field is a group of women praying and praising God, moments before the wind gusts hit the ground, with a thick dust swirling in the air.

The most dangerous moment perhaps, came when the wind started to blast foreign objects into the air. The wind also ripped off zinc from rooftops, turning them into deadly projectiles that flew in every direction. It forced scores of worshipers to run helter skelter, trying to seek a cover as others held on.

“The whole field [crusade ground] is upside down…Oh my God, You are Great! Light [poles] are falling! Everybody is praising God!” the “citizen journalist” repeatedly shouted. The stormy wind made visibility impossible.

Kids, some as young as seven-year-olds, weren’t so fortunate to escape the storm in time; some can be seen in the video running amok, without guardians and screaming, perhaps for help!

Photographs captured in the aftermath revealed the extent of the destruction left behind by the storm. Light poles, including county flags set up initially by the event organizers as symbolic representation of the counties were all knocked down by winds.

Since Wednesday, the rain has continued to fall heavily in and around Sanniquellie for the past four days including Sunday, thereby damaging most of the crusade equipment, says Rev. Dr. Christian Dagadu, head of the team, who responded to our text this morning while traveling with his group to Tappita, their next stop.

Aftermath of the ‘devil’ rainstorm.

“After the storm we had the crusade and it was awesome. God glorified Himself and the devil was disgrace again,” Dr. Dagadu posted to his Facebook page earlier, Thursday. Miraculously, nobody died nor got hurt by the storm.

“We praise God for His Word. No weapon formed against us shall prosper,” it continued. The crusade crew includes several outstanding local pastors plus Ghanaian pastor, Apostle Alex Obiri Yeboah, who traveled with them to Sanniquellie, serving as guest preacher, Thursday.

Late Saturday, Dagadu, in a telephone conversation with Global Ekklesia, while still in the historic city, said they first saw it emerging from the northern fringes, the location of Yekepa and the nation of Guinea, dotted with steep mountains, and before long came the ravaging.

The outbreak of rainstorms isn’t an unnatural occurrence in this part of Liberia, since in fact this region possesses some of the country’s highest mountain peaks. The old mining town of Yekepa, previously operated by a joint American-Swedish company, is almost entirely surrounded by higher mountains.

However, what some may view to be a strange phenomenon thus is the sudden burst of a violent rainstorm, followed by a heavy downpour of rain particularly in summer which is expected to last through next April.

Unless local scientists can determine such summer violent rainstorms, or attribute it to changes in weather patterns in this region that some say barely get rainfall during this time of year, some may likely conclude this was the work of the devil!

For Dr. Dagadu and his pastoral team, spiritual warfare isn’t something new. In some parts of the interior during their tour, they had often encountered similar, or even vigorous spiritual attacks from evil forces who, accordingly, used “supernatural power” to fight to thwart God’s message from reaching the people.

Bishop J. Allan Klayee is among several pastors on the Nimba crusade tour.

As a result, Dagadu and his prayer warriors have had to fast as much as they can before embarking on these journeys.

Aware of these occurrences, most pastors in the urban area now appear unwilling to venture outside of the city where thousands, still trapped in total ignorance, badly need redemption from Jesus Christ.

Sanniquellie-Mahn District, is about 160 miles north of Monrovia. It too, has some significance that relates to the vision of the establishment of a UNITED AFRICA

ADVERTISE IN GLOBAL EKKLESIA!

In the year 1959, Liberia’s President Williams Tubman, Guinean President Sekou Toure, and President Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, first met there and sowed seed for the Organization of African Unity (OAU), (NewAfrican, May 3, 2013).

The revival ended Sunday, March 17, and the group left Sanniquellie and arrived in Tappita, one of Nimba’s largest cities, Monday. Event climaxes in Saclepea (pronounced “Saclaypea”), in the coming weeks before the team will return to Monrovia, says Dr. Dagadu.

The current revival is being sponsored by Christian Evangelistic Ministries of Rev. Dr. Dagadu, with the theme: “Walking Under An Opened Heaven Crusade 2024” and
